Momofuku Ando: Bankrupt at 48, Yet Created a Miracle from a Bowl of Noodles
Tahun 1958, Jepang masih bangkit dari kehancuran perang. Banyak orang kelaparan, ekonomi terpuruk, dan semangat hidup meredup. Di tengah masa itu, seorang pria bernama Momofuku Ando, usia 48 tahun, justru mengalami kebangkrutan besar.
Namun, bukannya menyerah, ia memilih untuk bangkit — dari dapur kecil rumahnya di Osaka.

In 1958, Japan was still recovering from the ruins of war. People were starving, the economy was in shambles, and hope seemed lost. Amid this struggle, a man named Momofuku Ando, aged 48, faced bankruptcy.
But instead of giving up, he decided to start again — from a small kitchen in Osaka.
Suatu hari ia melihat antrian panjang di depan kios ramen. Orang-orang rela berdiri berjam-jam hanya untuk semangkuk mie panas. Dari situ muncul ide sederhana:
“Bagaimana jika ramen bisa dimakan kapan saja, di mana saja?”
One day, he noticed long lines in front of a ramen stall. People stood for hours just for a warm bowl of noodles. From that scene came a simple thought:
“What if ramen could be eaten anytime, anywhere?”
Ando pun bereksperimen tanpa henti di dapurnya. Setiap hari ia mencoba — gagal, mencoba lagi, gagal lagi. Sampai akhirnya ia menemukan cara mengeringkan mie dengan menggorengnya, sehingga cukup diseduh air panas untuk siap dimakan.
Lahir lah Chicken Ramen, mie instan pertama di dunia.
Ando experimented tirelessly in his kitchen — failing over and over again. Until one day, he discovered a way to dry noodles by flash-frying them, allowing them to cook instantly with just hot water.
And so, Chicken Ramen — the world’s first instant noodles — was born.
